What is energy psychology?
Energy psychology refers to a number of clinical and self-help techniques, including EFT, that work to restore the balance and flow of energy necessary for optimal health and wellness.
Pairing the stimulation (tapping) of acupuncture points with exposure to a targeted issue of concern (e.g., depression, anxiety, prolonged grief, trauma or any other source of distress), energy psychology techniques work to help us to quickly identify and release the source of our distress.
When we are stressed, our energy becomes blocked causing our whole system to be thrown off balance. Energy psychology techniques such as EFT, Mindfulness-Based Meditation, and Affirmations work to put us in touch with our core issues and limiting beliefs so that we can neutralize and release them from our system.
A major principle of energy psychology is that the mind, body, and spirit act as one entity. Whole health depends on the strength and flow of the life force (or Qi as it is known in Chinese medicine) throughout the entire system. When our vital energies are strong and flowing freely through our system, we experience optimal mind-body health and wellness. When our vital energies are weakened and blocked, we experience psychological disruptions, emotional suffering and physical illness.
How does energy psychotherapy work?
Energy psychotherapy activates your body’s own natural healing abilities. It has been referred to as acupuncture for the emotions without needles as it uses the same acupoints as acupuncture. As the strength and flow of energy are balanced and restored, the body begins to heal itself.
The body is constantly receiving and responding to our thoughts and emotions. Unresolved emotional suffering and related—subconscious—restrictive beliefs and thought patterns create physical tension and stress.
Energy psychotherapy practitioners use a variety of gentle yet effective techniques for releasing those negative and restrictive core beliefs at the root of psychological and physical distress.
What is EFT?
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) (often referred to as tapping) is a powerful, widely used and easy to learn self-help tool that greatly enhances mind-body health and wellness. With practice, EFT can produce impressive results for optimizing mental clarity and focus, emotional well-being and physical health.
As part of the family of energy psychology techniques, EFT is based on the premise that wherever there is discomfort or dissatisfaction, there is an unresolved emotional block. As we now know, even in the case of such conditions as chronic pain and illness, ongoing stress is the greatest hindrance to the body’s own natural ability to heal.
The simplicity and power of EFT give us the means to generate our own healing and create the wellness we desire for ourselves.
How does EFT work?
EFT incorporates the foundational theory of acupuncture that our emotional and physical imbalances are created by disruptions in our energy system. These imbalances are often largely created by subconscious core beliefs that tell us we do not deserve to be happy, well, and at peace. EFT works to restore balance within the energy system by engaging the mind and body in sending new information to the subconscious by pairing positive cognitions with the stimulation of key acupuncture points. It calms the part of the brain that becomes activated when we’re under stress.
We release our limiting beliefs and false notions of self-created by early wounds and traumas and then dismantle and neutralize them so that they no longer have power over us. At the same time, we are providing our minds and bodies with new information that will promote our overall healing and return to balance.
What is the process of EFT?
EFT is a gentle process of tapping particular acupuncture points while neutralizing and releasing core limiting beliefs.
The practitioner checks in with the client throughout the process, assessing the client’s distress level in relation to an identified stressor. The process continues until the identified issue is no longer a source of distress for the client.
Negative and restrictive thought patterns and perspectives give way to a positive, possibility oriented outlook. Balance is restored to the energy system, promoting wellness in mind, body, and spirit.
